Clearance Hole

Above is an example of a clearance hole in section. Although the difference in diameters between the fastener and the hole is exaggerated in the diagram, the surfaces are represented with separate lines. Clearance holes are typically specified where fasteners will pass through the hole, such as for mounting one part to another. A high degree of accuracy is usually not required. Clearance holes are usually produced with a single drilling operation.
